Meet Gracie

December 31, 2017

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and it just got even better! If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat then you already saw this post coming.

*Drumroll please* WE GOT A PUPPY!

Everyone meet Gracie!

P.S. She already has an Instagram @welcome_to_gracie_land where you can keep up with our adventures!

We got her for $20 off of Craigslist. Best $20 spent?! I think yes! Homegirl’s dad didn’t stick around so all we know is that her momma was a lab. So she is some kind of mix. Hopefully as she gets older we’ll be able to tell.

She is THE sassiest puppy and has such a personality! She definitely has separation anxiety and cries and cries if you leave her #Needy 😉 She loves cuddling and sleeping in the bed with her head on the pillow like a human. DIVA!

She has started teething and wants to chew on everything in sight. Those little puppy teeth are so cute though! I guess it makes sense that her favorite game is tug-of-war.

She’ll get about 15 minutes of crazy energy and then just pass out for an hour. It’s pretty funny, except for when she chooses to get that spurt of energy at 5 am!

She’s started to get car sick more frequently as the time has gone on, which has put a damper on all of our adventures! Hopefully she’ll grow out of that as she gets older though! *fingers crossed*

She also gets cold SO EASILY! Like really, all you have to do is walk outside for .5 seconds and she’s already shivering. So she was definitely not a happy camper when we had our little photoshoot the other day. When I wasn’t busy forcing her to showcase her cuteness for the camera, this is how she was hanging out.

Wrapped in a t-shirt and shoved into a fossil bag? Glamorous right? Haha!

She went to her first vet visit last week and weighed 4 pounds. 4 FREAKIN’ POUNDS! So little! So she probably has more purse rides in her future.

Here’s some more cuteness!

Now onto a topic that means a lot to me: Adopt Vs. Shop

It’s been a tough two months or so. We recently had to put down our dog, Shadow. If you know me then there’s a pretty good chance that you met Shadow. He was the most loving, obedient, and all around perfect dog that you could ever imagine. Seriously, there will never be a dog that lives up to him!

We got Shadow at an adoption day back in 2005 and that is when I became to dedicated to #adopting vs. #shopping. He had been abused, was terrified even if anyone tried to reach down to pet him, and always wanted nothing more than to please. I honestly believe that shelter dogs have an entirely different kind of appreciation when they finally find their forever home.

We recently started searching for the newest addition to the family, which of course consisted of visiting shelter after shelter. Lemme tell ya, it was TOUGH. Walking through the shelter just to see all those helpless eyes staring back at you pulls at your heart strings. I wanted nothing more than to be able to adopt every single one of them!

It was so heartbreaking going from cage to cage reading their bios and life story. A lot of the dogs in shelters are full grown, which I know is where a lot of people frown upon. Everybody wants a cute new puppy (like I got) but that just isn’t the reality of the shelters usually. While there were some litters of puppies throughout the multiple shelters we went to, there weren’t many.

Back when we got Shadow he was already a few years old, which worked out perfectly because he was already trained! We didn’t have to go through that puppy stage of chewing, not being potty trained, and running away!

Like I said before, we got Gracie off of Craigslist from a family who had saved her litter from the shelter. A lot of shelters in the DFW area have even been completely waiving adoption fees due to the abundance of dogs they have. It is super sad to think that some of these babies have to be put down solely due to the overpopulation in the shelters. What. A. Freakin. Shame.

I’m going to link the sites and Facebook pages of some of the surrounding shelters just in case this post is catching you at a time that you are actually in search of a new pup!
